Our mild climate in the Bellingham WA area allows us to get outdoors and enjoy nature for most of the year.  Many homeowners put decks on their homes so they've got a convenient spot to do that.  Decks are one of the best ways to add value to your home, but if you've lived in the area very long, you know that keeping the wood or composite decking in good condition and looking good takes work and regular maintenance.

Humidity and rain means wood surfaces such as decks, fence boards, and wooden steps get covered with algae.  Not only is that green scum unsightly, but it can make your deck or stairs slippery, and that's a safety issue.  And it also breaks down the stain or other finish.

Cleaning your deck or other surface properly can bring it back to life and restore its original beauty. 

Regular cleaning of your deck or stairway keeps it looking good and also helps the wood to last longer.  Power washing is one of the most effective ways to do that.  But power washing is only part of the process.  We also use a solution to kill the algae so it won't spread. 

Obviously we can't guarantee you won't get more algae  that develops during the next damp season, but it's important to remove it regularly.  And we can add a mildewcide to the deck stain or paint to help retard further growth of that nasty green stuff.  But the first step is to get it well cleaned so the sealer or other finish adheres well.

Whether your deck is newly-installed or you've had it for years, we have a variety of finishing and maintenance services available, including:

• Power washing and cleaning to remove dirt, algae, loose finish, and debris as well as most of the existing finish
• Stripping and removal of the remainder of existing stain, paint, or sealer that has faded or become discolored (power washing can leave a portion of the old finish, but it should remove most of it)
• Natural wood beauty restoration - removal of stains and weathered appearance
• Finishing with solid color, semi-transparent, or clear stain (waterborne or oil-based)
• Top coat with clear sealer or elastomeric coating

For the best in deck appearance and maintenance, we generally recommend Sherwin Williams DeckScapes® products, but if you prefer another product such as Cabot or Thompson, that's also available.
