our bellingham painting company team
At our company, we prefer to think of ourselves as team. We enjoy working together to provide the very best in painting and wall covering craftsmanship as well as customer care. We've all got the same goal: that our customers are very pleased with the results when we wrap up their projects. Meet our permanent crew:
John Schweiss, Managing Partner
John is originally from Louisville, Kentucky, and he learned the paper hanging and painting trade by way of an informal apprenticeship in Ohio with a true craftsman, who was somewhat of a stickler for perfection. (So now you know where that came from.) John worked for Whitey for an entire year before he was allowed to hang any paper.
John and his wife, Katie, relocated to Bellingham in 2012 from the Minnesota & Wisconsin area, where they had operated their painting and wall covering business since 1994. In addition to hands-on work on job sites, John supervises the rest of the crew and does estimating, scheduling, and meeting with clients. And when he's not working, you'll either find him watching sports or reading. Or playing with someone's dog.
Katie Schweiss, Administrative Partner
Katie started out life in St. Paul, Minnesota, but she has lived in various places around the U.S. She met (and married) John in Ohio in 1985, and she has been helping him manage his painting business ever since.
She is the one you'll reach when you call the office - unless she is tied up with her other interests, such as her freelance SEO writing and their grandchildren. In addition to managing the business's online presence (website and social media), she also handles all administrative aspects of the business, from bookkeeping and taxes to contracts and billing.
David Krieger, Partner
David hails from Ponchatoula, Louisiana. He originally joined North Pine Painting in 2003 when the business was located in Minnesota. A few years later, he decided he wanted to take another direction with his life and moved with wife JoEllen and his children to Washington. David has worked in various industries, including cabinet making and small engine repair. But when John and Katie moved to Bellingham, they convinced David to come back into the painting business with them.
David handles all types of finishing work, but you'll find he's a real pro with a pressure washer. You can check him out in action on our YouTube channel. He also helps out with estimating when John is tied up. In his down time, David's favorite activity is to explore the Pacific Northwest, hiking with JoEllen. (He also plays a mean banjo.)
Robby Scott, Crew
Robby and his wife, Cheryl, are transplants to the PNW from Texas. He has worked in a number of construction trades. When he responded to our job opening ad, we were delighted to hire him. We've found his experience in painting and wall covering as well as his other skills to be just what we've needed.
Robby is a jack of all trades and can fix just about anything, so you may find him wrenching on something in our shop from time to time. He helps keep our vehicles running and is the one responsible for us now having hot water at the shop. Robby has been known to show up at a job with armfuls of fresh veggies from his garden to share.
Robert Schwenker, Crew
Robert and wife Liz are also newcomers to Bellingham. Originally from Ohio, Robert made the move cross country when his wife was offered a job in this area. Not only does he have much-needed youth on his side, but he has the skills and experience we've been looking for. Keeping a high standard of quality work is something he's familiar with from his previous employer in Ohio, and we are thankful to have him on board.
Robert enjoys a number of outdoor activities when he's not wielding a paint scraper or brush, including hiking and biking. We've let him know he will find plenty of places to do that here.
Donald Barksdale, Crew
A native of Louisiana, you'll usually find him with more layers on than the rest of us. Donnie has previously been a seasonal employee who has joined us every spring when the weather turns warm down south, heading back home in the fall. But recently he decided he'd prefer to live in Bellingham year round.
Donnie has lots of skills and experience that we're happy he has brought to our company. Like Robby, if it involves working with his hands, he can do it. Donnie is single, and among his other hobbies he loves old movies and listening to the radio. You might also see him around Bellingham on his bike.
